BIOL 395 or PSYC 347 (prerequisites include PSYC 201 or 202 for PSYC 347; or BIOL 213 for BIOl 395) students take one course, not both. This interdisciplinary course examines historic epidemics through the study of microbes and their effects on human health and human behavior as a result of disease or infection. Students will learn the basic mechanisms by which microbes evolve, infect, and travel between hosts. In addition, direct effects on human behavior by microbes and personal and group reactions to infection or threat of infection will be examined.
