Angola

Description

Angola is a country in south-central Africa and borders Namibia to the south, Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Zambia to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to west. Angola is the world\'s twenty-third largest country in the world. The average temperature in the winter is 60 degrees Fahrenheit on the coast and 70 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.

Political power is concentrated in the Presidency and the executive branch of the government is composed of the President, the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. The Council of Ministers meet regularly to discuss policy issues and is composed of all government ministers and vice ministers. The legal system which was established in 1992, as The Constitutional Law is based on Portuguese and customary law but is weak and courts operate in only twelve of more than 140 municipalities. The current government has announced an intention to hold elections in 2008, which will be the first election held since 1992.

Capoeira, an art form in Angola is well known and fascinated over worldwide. There are two different parts of Capoeira: Capoeira Regional and Capoeira Angola. Capoeira Angola is the original form, created in Brazil by African slaves, while Capoeira Regional is a modern and popular form of Capoeira. Until the 1930s, Capoeira was practiced in secrecy and it was not lawful to practice or teach. In Angola, there are 15 national holidays celebrated each year.
